Konain Fissure
30.791700,77.872200
Description
An apparently dupish fissure that might be got into (Leakey 1946.08.20 Mss) has been interpreted as a case of some earth-movement fissures (LEAKEY 1955: 60). ETYMOLOGY: -dupe- (English, adjective), origin (late 17th century) from -dupe- (dialect French), hoopoe (note 1), from the bird's supposedly stupid appearance (OXFORD DICTIONARY 2005). SITUATION: In the vicinity of Konain (note 2) at a location either on the cliff edge nearest to Konain Temple (Leakey 1946.08.20 Mss) or on the edge of a grassy plateau a few hundred yards north of the Konain Forest Rest House (LEAKEY 1955: 60). GEOLOGY: The Deoban limestone … series is quite unconformable to the underlying Chakrata beds, as is proved by its unconformably overlapping or overstepping their eroded edges. This is very well seen near Konain, where the Deoban lies on the Chakrata limestone while as the boundary is traced to the west it is seen to rest successively on a (locally) descending series of slates (OLDHAM, R D 1883b: 195).An apparently dupish fissure that might be got into (Leakey 1946.08.20 Mss) has been interpreted as a case of some earth-movement fissures (LEAKEY 1955: 60).
