Description
The -Hole of [Mr.] Ajongba- is locally considered as a cave and consists of a dimly lit vertical gap between dislocated sandstone boulders. On 29th December 2002 the shown gap was up to 0.3 m wide and descended less than a metre vertically down to a moist sand floor. SITUATION: Among gravitationally dislocated boulders, which have tumbled into a gully, which lies in a linear distance of 320 m north-north-east (346°) of the prominent Banyan tree (±5.6 m N26°25'02-: E094°25'43-: 663 m asl WGS84) at the Aliba Cattle Breeding Farm, which itself lies half a kilometre from the road-side settlement New Camp (±4.2 m N26°25'35-: E094°25'58-: circa 700 m asl WGS84) on the road from Mokokchung (N26°20': E094°32') north-west towards Mariani (N26°40': E094°20' in Assam). CULTURAL HISTORY - Cave legend & fabulous tunnel: A hunter took great pains to train his dog. Chasing a deer, the dog followed the prey even when it fled at Ajongba Saku into a fabulous underground tunnel. Both dogand dear reappeared at Chungtiya, thus proving an underground connection -- a case of deer tracing.
