Description
Apparently several unspecified -caves- (KUSCH 1973c: 20) or rock shelters are said to have something to do with Kurandaka (note 1). Compare –>Karambagala Cave. SITUATION: At an unspecified location, and somewhere In the jungle (KUSCH 1973c: 20) near Ambalantota (N06°07': E081°01'). COOK (1931: 67): Along the southern coast there is also a narrow bed of limestone not formed in an ordinary coral reef, which must have developed during a short period of subsidence; this can be seen at Hambantota (N06°07': E081°07'). CULTURAL HISTORY: According to KUSCH (1973c: 20) after an unidentified source (note 2), one of the caves in the vicinity of Ambalantota is mentioned as Kurandaka Lena in the 5th century Visuddhimagga composed by Buddhaghosa.
