Description
A tight but penetrable cave entrance, which is obstructed by boulders (note 1), leads to an inspiring cave in crystalline limestone. IDENTITY: On page 35, SIFFRE (1975) narrates how he grabbed handfulls of garnets from the floor of this unidentified grotte réputée très profonde (reputedly very large cave). On the following page 36, SIFFRE (1975) explains to have been the happiest man on earth when amassing handfulls of garnets in a so-called grotte de Batatota (note 2). Little doubt remains that Batatota (SIFFRE 1975: 36) refers to the village of Batatota (N06°50': E080°22' WGS84) from where not only –>Batadomba Lena but also –>Batatota Lena has been reported. SITUATION: At the base of a crystalline limestone cliff (note 3) on one of the sides of an unidentified montagne (mountain) or colline (hill), which rises above an unidentified village (no name mentioned). CAVE DESCRIPTION: None. SIFFRE (1975: 35) mentions recesses or niches and an air temperature inducing sweat (note 4) befre referring to une paroi creusée de cupules (a cave wall marked with -scallops- or shallow cavities) and narrating how he grabbed from the cave floor handfuls of corindon (corundrum) crystals, which later were identified as altered garnet. SIFFRE (1975: 36) gives a photograph titled Une paroi de gemmes mis en évidence par la dissolution de la roche encaissante calcaire (A cave wall of semi-precious stones proofs dissolution of rock containing calcium carbonate) and shows glittering highlights on a dark background.re referring to une paroi creusée de cupules (a cave wall marked with -scallops- or shallow cavities) and narrating how he grabbed from the cave floor handfuls of corindon (corundrum) crystals, which later were identified as altered garnet. History
EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1961 February or March: Michel SIFFRE (1975: 35) narrates how Caldera (a tourist guide) had learned from unidentified resident people (no names mentioned) about a reputedly extensive cave: … Caldera n'avait pas perdu son temps. En palabrant avec les indigènes, il avait appris l'existence et l'emplacement d'une grotte reputée très profonde.
