GOLLALERU UNDERCUT

Description
NOTE 1: Having visited the spot in December 1983, I strongly recommand to forget the undercut but to visit the place anyhow because ubiquiteous quarrying frenzy turns (1990ies) the limestone country of Kurnool into a desolate waste-scape leaving little except spoil and monotonous alternations of scorched grass and "goat-resitant" shrubs and bubul trees (conf. Acacia arabica aut Acacia mangium). The walk to the Gollaleru falls, however, had offered in winter 1983/84 the sight of true trees and the water fall itself served as a world-class open-air shower.
DUTT, N V B S (1955: 119, 1962b: 552, 1981: 13 and figure 8 facing p. 3) reported a relatively high and wide but shallow undercut from a location behind a waterfall scooping out soft Auk shale below a caprock of more resistant Paniam Quartzite (note 1). The 45 m high waterfall on the Gollaleru falls from the Uppalapaddu plateau and erodes the undercut in the back of a kona (pocket valley) situated at a distance of about 3 km north-west of the Owk (Auk, Avuku) Rest House.
