Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A relatively constricted [cave] entrance of unknown size faces an unidentified direction and gives access to a cave passage in which gentlemen with a taste for long ones encountered the sight of a total of some 60 m endowed with a crawl under a stal. curtain (anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 11th February, Monday). SITUATION: The entrance to this cave was found in the course of an expedition from the cave entrance to that Krem Yedi, for which the coordinates of N25o24’56.0” E92o36’15.5” read from the map were good enough. by negotiating a march up a scramble and across the depression to the base of a rock outcrop 30 m to the NW of [an unspecified] the sump (17 m vertical separation) (anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 11th February, Monday). CAVE DESCRIPTION: A constricted entrance leads to a hands and knees crawl in a 3 m wide passage with compacted mud floor. A crawl under a stal. curtain leads to walking passage. After a total of some 60 m the passage shrinks to a strongly drafting 1 m by 1 m hole (anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 11th February, Monday). Adi, Urs, Cookie … set off for the upper entrance … [in hope] it would provide a bypass to the sump in the first few metres of the lower entrance. The caving was pleasant in this well decorated cave. After 100 m the floor steeply sloped up to a second entrance above, no sump bypass. A relatively small hole, partly blocked by tree roots [15th February 2013], was located in the final camber and allowed to wriggle down in to a mud coated chamber (anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 15th February, Friday). CAVE POTENTIAL: Fully unidentified, so-called the locals (no names mentioned) are said to report that this cave [Krem Yedi] is the resurgence for Krem Khung (anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 15th February, Friday). PROSPECTS: Digging through he mud would be required for further progress (anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 15th February, Friday). CAVE CLIMATE: Selected aspects of an airflow, which was noticed in the interior of the cave on 15th February 2013 at an unspecified time, was interpreted as the draft continues down a small hole that bat flew out of and a low bedding (anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 15th February, Friday). CAVE LIFE: On Friday, 15th February 2013, Krem Yedi was not only the home of bat (Chiroptera) but, apparently, also of a volatile species of a low bedding which both flew out of a hole in a mud coated chamber (anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 15th February, Friday).

History

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2013.02.11, Monday, trip 1: Thomas Arbenz and David 'Cookie' Cooke set up a party in view of undertaking an expedition to the cave entrances and dark areas of Krem Yaje, Krem YejiKrem Yaje was located first … The party then proceeded to locate Krem Yedi whereupon Cookie investigated another entrance he spotted up a scramble and across the depression to the base of a rock outcrop 30 m NW of the sump (Arbenz, T in: anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 11th February, Monday). 2013.02.15, Friday, trip 2: David 'Cookie' Cooke, Urs 'Waelchli' Wälchli and Adrian 'Adi' Costica … set off for the upper entrance spotted on the recce two days ago, it was hoped that it would provide a bypass to the sump in the first few metres of the lower entrance. The caving was pleasant in this well decorated cave. After 100 m the floor steeply sloped up to a second entrance above, no sump bypass. Scouting around in the final camber, a smal hole, partially blocked by tree roots, was located. Urs cut the root with his pocket saw and Cookie wriggled down in to a mud coated chamber. The draft continues down a small hole that bat flew out of and a low bedding. Digging through the mud would be required for further progress. A total of 125.54 m were surveyed (series 1). Adi took several photos on the way out. After some jungle bashing, Urs and Cookie located the second entrance from the outside. The survey was extended over ground from the upper to the lower entrance to understand the relationship between the two (series 2) (anonymous Arbenz, T 2013.08.07 Mss: Meghalaya Expedition 2013 Diary: 15th February, Friday).
