Description
Man-made "cave temple" (rock temple, rock-cut chamber used for religious purposes) consisting of a twenty-pillared hall of somewhat irregular in shape (about 24.1 m by 23.8 m wide), is situated about 18 km west of Ajanta (N20°32': E75°45') somewhere near a village of »Gulwada« (note 1). BURGESS & FERGUSSON (1880 edited 1988 plate 52) give a ground plan and BURGESS (1881 or 1883 edited 1994: 60, 138-140 plate 60) details.
NOTE 1: »Gulwada« is indicated as »Golvad« near N20°34': E75°37' on AMS sheet NF43-15 Malkapur (U502 series, 1956 edition) on the north-western slopes of the Ajanta Range of hills and at linear distances of about 18 km a little north by east from Ajanta and 9 km SSE from Shendurni (N20°39': E75°35').
