THOHMYRHU, Nongthymmai (Krem)

A cave called Krem Thohmyrhu is reputedly used for fishing during the monsoons (Kharpran Daly 2004.07.18 Mss). ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi verb -thoh- means to cut trees; to write, to make a mark; to take with the tip of the finger and the adjective -thoh- means having a mark or spot while the noun -ka thoh- is an ornamental edging or border of a garment; a mark, a spot (SINGH, N 1906: 228). The Khasi or Synteng term -myrhu- is not identified as it is not listed by SINGH, N (1906: 228).
