Location

An unidentified »holy cave (note 1), in which was a kind of grotto« (GERVIS 1954: 258-259) represents both the dargah (venerated grave) of an unidentified Punjabi fakir (Muslim saint) and the hermitage retreat of an unidentified sadhu (Hindu saint) --both without specified name. SITUATION: At an unspecified location somewhere in »Jammu Province« (note 2): »My quite innocent question to one old Hindu who had taken me to see a holy cave in which was a kind of grotto, as to its story; his answer that it was the home and death cell of a great sadhu --a holy man of the Hindus-- and the immediate denial of this by the Muslim driver, who insisted that in it there once lived a famous Punjabi fakir --a holy man of the Indian Muslims-- ended in blows between them …« (GERVIS 1954: 258-259). NOTE 1: This temple cave may correspond to –>Pir Khuh / Peer Khoh or the Cave of –>Shiva, both at Jammu town. NOTE 2: The »Jammu Province« of Gervis' time is suspected to cover (parts of) the current (2007) districts of Jammu, Kathua, Riasi and Udhampur. Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 05/05/2016
