Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 28/03/2016

A comparatively »short cave« (without identified dimensions) characterise PRASAD & YADAGIRI /1986: 73) with an approximately »huge stalactite structure« (speleothem) near the cave entrance. ETYMOLOGY: »Gokara« may have something to do with cows (zoologically: Bovidae) and "baddha" (PRASAD & YADAGIRI 1986: 73) is suspected to be either a corruption of "badde" (Telugu) meaning a cliff or a gorge, or a corruption of "bodu" (Gondi) meaning »crest, ridge.« SITUATION: PRASAD & YADAGIRI (1986: 73) place »Gokarabaddha Gavi Cave« in an unspecified direction »500 m away« from –>Nemmicheli Gavi or »Nemmalchala Gavi Cave« (PRASAD & YADAGIRI 1986: 73) and »Nemmicheli Cave« (VENUGOPAL RAO & RAO 1992: 240), which is said to lie not only »about 7 km due south of Betamcherla town« (N15°26'50”: E078°08'55” Everest 1830) but also, in one way or an other, »nearer« (without identified spatial relation) to an unspecified »Nalla Bochala Mine« (unidentified, possibly an abandoned limestone quarry).

History

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1980-1981: PRASAD & YADAGIRI (1986: 73) noticed a comparatively »short cave« which they recorded as »Gokarabaddha Gavi Cave« and possibly is a cave (gavi) in a cliff (badde) called after some "gokara" (cows, cowherds?) and hence a Gokarabadde Gavi. 2010.01.03: Perrin (2010.02.02 Mss) found »no indication on the possible location of … Gokarabadde.« Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 28/03/2016
