An unidentofied, locally known cave (Kharpran Daly 1997 Mss item no. 12; ). ETYMOLOGY: The meaning and origin of the Khasi cave name »Krem Rangshugniam« (note 1) or »Krem Rangchuhniam« (note 2) has not yet been discovered but appears to combine the Khasi words "rang" + "shuh" + "niam" (note 3) = »contain + again / further more + male / pipe« (or so). SITUATION 1997: The cave entrance to »Krem Rangshugniam« (Kharpran Daly 1997 Mss item no. 7; KHARPRAN DALY, B D 2006 s.a.: 19-21) is said so lie somewhere in the vicinity of »Nongkulang« (note 4). SITUATION 2002: According to hearsay information gained on »14/2/1« (2001.02.14) from so-called »locals« (unidentified persons familiar with the area) from »Nongallon« (sic! qua: Nongkhyllam) or »Nongri« (note 5), the cave entrance to »Krem Rangshugniam« is said to be reached when travelling along a track (not jeepable) that runs from the village of Kulang towards Pormawdar (Brooks, S J 2002.05.25 Mss).SITUATION 2012: The cave entrance to »Krem Rangchuhniam« (Kharpran Daly, B D 2012.12.31 email "SCAN 31122012" scan 0002.tif = page 21 dated »2012 Dec 16« or 2012.12.16) is said to lie somewhere in the vicinity of Pormawdar (note 6).

NOTE 4: Nongkulang (KHARPRAN DALY, B D 2006 s.a.: 19) is the "nong" (village) indicated as »Kulang« near (±500 m) N25°16'51”: E091°04'19”: 377 m (WGS84 modified from N25°16'49”: E091°04'29”: 377 m asl Everest 1830, Survey of India 78-O/03 edition 1971) about 5.6 km in a direct line approximately ESE from Pormawdar (N25°17'53”: E091°01'11” WGS84). Not to be confused with »Nongkulang« (GODWIN AUSTEN 1869) or »Nonkalong« (MEDLICOTT 1869a: 9 = 159) and »Nongkyllam« (Kharpran Daly 1997 Mss item no. 3) indicated as »Kulang 1840« near (±500 m) N25°14'50”: E091°04'05”: 560.8 m asl (WGS84 modified from N25°14'50”: E091°04'15” Everest 1830) on the Survey of India One-Inch series sheet 78-O/04 (edition 1912) and as »Kelang« on the Survey of India Half-Inch series sheet 78-O/SW (edition 1917). NOTE 5: »Nongri« (Brooks, S J 2002.05.25 Mss) is the village of Nongjri near (±4.7 m) N25°14'48”: E091°07'47”: 542 m asl (WGS84) about 2 km along the road approximately west of Nongkhyllam / Kulang / Kelang (N25°14'40”: E091°08'30”: 561 m asl WGS84). EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1997.02.16-17: Brian D. Kharpran Daly (1997 Mss item no. 12) recorded the cave name »Krem Rangshugniam.« 1998.02.16-17: »Nongkulang … During a recce on the 16th and 17th February 1998, members of the Meghalaya Adventurers' Association recorded the name of … Krem Rangshugniam …« (KHARPRAN DALY, B D 2006 s.a.: 19-21). 2012.02.16: An unidentified person somewhere in the vicinity of Amarsang (note 7) is said to have told the cave name »Krem Rangchuhniam« to Brian D Kharpran Daly (2012.12.31 email "SCAN 31122012" scan 0002.tif of Zawada, W M 2012 "greenroom" diary dated »2012 Dec 16« page 21).
