A »natural rock temple« (cave temple) where the »face of Shiva is worshipped« (KAUR, J 1985: 96). SITUATION: »At Rudranath … 23 km [along the trek; 13 km in a direct line] north-north-west of Gopeshwar [note 1], it involves a trek of no less than 21 km over the high ridges (in some cases over 4000 m) and through wild orchards and high Himalayan pastures. … meadow-scape … unmatched scenes of wilderness« (KAUR, J 1985: 96). CULTURAL HISTORY: »Each year a fair is held on 'Srawan Purnima [note 2] in July / August) at Rudranath, which is attended by a large gathering of pilgrims from Garhwal« (KAUR, J 1985: 96).
