Buddhist excavations which consist of series of rock-cut caves (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909, 11: 283) or man-made rock chambers excavated for religious purposes). SITUATION: At a travelling distance of 27 km north-east along the road from Dhamnar (24°12'N: 75°30'E) on the Kauntel Plateau (India Road Atlas, Eicher Goodearth 2006: 52 C2 D3, 53 E2) and at a place called Poladongar or Polodonger (note 1) near Garot or Garoth (note 2). SITUATION 1908: In the obsolete Indore State, Central India … at Poladongar near Garot and within a circle of 20 miles (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909, 11: 283) or about 30 km from –>Dhamnar (24°12'N: 75°30'E). SITUATION 1984: In the District Mandasor … at Polodonger near the Garot village (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1981-1982 / 1984: 95).
