An unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) is said to give access to an unidentified cave (Kharpran Daly, D D 1997.03.13 Mss: "[twentyfive] 25 caves located" item no. 10). ETYMOLOGY: The origin and meaning of the cave name »Krem Weiklasup« (Kharpran Daly, B D 1997 Mss) has not yet been identified. It seems to refer to a "krem" or cave associated with "wei khlah" or one full arm's length (note 1) and a "sup" or big storage basket (note 2).SITUATION: Unknown. At an unidentified location somewhere »near« the village of Mawkneng (note 3), which is said (Kharpran Daly, D D 1997.03.13 Mss) to lie somewhere in the vicinity of Nongstoin (25°30'35”N: 91°16'05”E). CAVE POTENTIAL: Unknown. There are, however, several unidentified "caves" (or so) near Mawkneng, namely: Krem –>Lum Khongpliang (Kharpran Daly, B D 1997.03.13 Mss "25 caves located" item 11) Krem –>Maweit (Raphael Warjri, Shillong, 1998.02.09, personal communication) Krem –>Wah Dika (Kharpran Daly, B D 1997.03.13 Mss "25 caves located" item 12). Krem –>Weiklasup (Kharpran Daly, B D 1997.03.13 Mss "25 caves located" item 10).
NOTE 1: wei (Khasi; numeral adjective) one (OLDHAM, T 1859 appendix C: liv; GURDON, P R T 1906: 198, 200, 208; SINGH, N 1906: 246). ka klah (Khasi; noun, generally used with numeral adjectives) a full arm's length (SINGH, N 1906: 42). NOTE 2: u sup (Khasi; noun) a big basket for putting in grain, etc. (SINGH, N 1906: 214). NOTE 3: Mawkneng (Brian D. Kharpran Daly 1997.03.13 Mss; Raphael Warjri 1998.02.09 personal communication), literally: prominent rock, is neither shown on the Survey of India sheets 78-O/03 (1913), 78-O/04 (1912), 78-O/06 (1913), 78-O/07 (1913), 78-O/08 (1912) nor on AMS sheet NG46-09 Tura (U502 series, 1959 edition).
