Description
More than one cave (no names mentioned) of which little is known (CEYLON TRAVELLER 1974: 241; 1983: 243). ETYMOLOGY: The Sinhala -alu galge- translates into ash shelter (DERANIYAGALA, P E P 1955: 295). SITUATION: East of Minipe (note 1) and beyond the Mahaveli, but accessible at present only via the Bibile - Mahiyangana road (note 2), is a semi-circular chain of rock rising to approximately 2,500 feet [762 m] above sea level and about a thousand feet [305 m] above the surrounding countryside (CEYLON TRAVELLER 1974: 241; 1983: 243). POSITION: Apparently in the vicinity of N07°12'30”: E081°01'30” (mere guesswork).
