An unspecified cave called »Krem Umsynnah« (Kharpran Daly 1997: Mss item 2) is said to be found in the valley of a »Wah Um Sur« (note 1) near »Nongkyllam« (note 2). ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi noun "ka synñia“ means »night, darkness« (SINGH, N 1906: 216). SITUATION: Brooks (2002.05.25 Mss), according to information gathered on »14/2/01« (2001.02.14) from unacknowledged »locals [no names mentioned] in Nongallon [note 3] and Nongri« (note 4): Krem Umsynnah is reached via the track (not jeepable) which connects Kulang (note 5) with the village of Pormawdar (note 6). CAVE POTENTIAL: Krem Um Synna is possibly part of the underground drainage system fed by the –>Waikutaran / Kutabram Depression.

NOTE 1: This »Wah Um Sur« is not identified unless it corresponds A) to the river Umsa (i.e. the Wanok, the "Waik" of Godwin Austen) shown on the Survey of India One Inch series sheets 78-O/03 and 78/O04 near the village of Nongumsa near N25°15'10”: E091°01' (Everest 1830) or B) to the river flowing from the village of Nongumsur / Nongumsar near N25°15'01”: E091°08'30” (Everest 1830).NOTE 2: »Nongkyllam« (Kharpran Daly 1997 Mss item no. 3) is the village of Nongkhyllam (N25°14'40”: E091°08'30” WGS84). NOTE 3: »Nongallon« (Brooks 2002.05.25 Mss) is the village of Nongkhyllam (N25°14'40”: E091°08'30” WGS84). NOTE 4: »Nongri« (Brooks) is the village of Nongjri N25°14'48”: E091°07'47” (±4.7 m, WGS84): 542 m asl GPS Garmin 12) that lies about 2 km along the road west of Nongkhyllam. NOTE 5: Kulang (also: Nongkulang, Nonkalong, Kelang) N25°14'55”: E091°04'05” (WGS84 modified from Everest 1830 Survey of India Half-Inch series sheet 78-O/SW edition 1917).
