Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

An estimated 15 m deep pothole (without specified dimensions), which gives not only the impression of containing at least one shaft (with unidentified peculiarities or characteristics) but also is said to contain unspecified speleothems. ETYMOLOGY: No locally known name has been identified for Cave no. 14 (note 1).SITUATION: According to Harper (2008.02.08 Mss: Cave no. 14), a local guide [is] essential to explain the whereabouts of Cave no. 14 as it was understood to lie somewhere by the side of an unspecified path somewhere near Asakgre. According to the recorded GPS position (note 2), this pothole lies in the Chibanda area, immediately south-west and upstream of where the Danged stream sinks into –>Dangedkol, and at a spot which lies at linear distances of 59 m SW from AA Cave 13 (WGS84 N25°21'34.9”: E090°31'17.2”: 242 m asl) 160 m WSW from AA Cave 12 (WGS84 N25°21'35.3”: E090°31'23.8”: 248 m asl) 160 m WSW from AA Cave 12a (WGS84 N25°21'35.3”: E090°31'23.8”: 248 m as) CAVE DESCRIPTION (Harper, Rob 2008.02.08 Mss: Cave no. 14): A 10 m shaft by the side of the path can be descended to -6 m by scrambling to a point where artificial means are needed. The locals report that it is very short but well decorated. TACKLE (Harper, Rob 2008.02.08 Mss: Cave no. 13): Since there are plenty of natural hand- and footholds, the locals need no tackle except light. A competent team of sports cavers, however, requires at least 15 m of ladders or rope in addition to the full range of SRT equipment.) History

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2008.02.08: Not only Bikromjit Sanghma (Vikramjit Sangma?) but also unidentified local guides (without identified names) guided Keith Sanderson, Helen Harper, Rob Harper, Stuart McManus to the allegedly anonymous entrance of Cave no. 14. The 'strong' (mal-nourished) team of sports caving experts, who were not only fully aware of weighing more than 50 kg but also suffered crippled feet without prehensile toes, had to stay back and watch how Bikromjit Sanghma and local guides descended using flimsy tree branches for aid (Harper, Rob 2008.02.08 Mss: Cave no. 14.pdf).
