Description
A modified natural cave (temple cave) sacred to the Hindu mother goddess Shri Rasai Mata is situated at the level of the Amberkot (Amarkot, Amberkot) and at the western base of the fortified hill Devagiri (Deogiri, Deoghir, Duwagir) at –>Daulatabad. CULTURAL HISTORY: The cult spot is centered on an irregular bulge in face of the exposed basalt, now coated with bright orange coloured enamel. At the starting point of the Amberkot, a small temple of Rasai Mata is carved out into the steep rock of the fort. It looks, as if, the whole fort is resting on her fingers. This point offers you an immensly fascinating view of this fort (DESHPANDE & SAWANT 2005: 3 literally quoted). Looking at the image, it is felt as if the whole fort is resting on her fingers. A special well-built bridge is built on the moat to reach this temple. The giant, imposing and awe-inspiring fort fully unfolds before you from this point (DESHPANDE & SAWANT 2005: 16 location map, 28 description and photographs).
