Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 23/05/2016

Few caves are suspended in the air but an unspecified »underground cave« (WARD 1988: 262), which is either one more »Pandav Gufa associated with the five Pandawas« (note 1) or dedicated to Shiva (WARD 1988), contains »mosaics of lord Ganesh and other religious art« (R. Baskara Narayan) or a lingam, a bright orange painted Ganesha above, a Nandi bull opposite, and modern »mosaic tiling of appalling vulgarity« (WARD 1988). SITUATION: Somehow »next« (R. Baskara Narayan) or »near« (WARD 1988: 262) the Survya Mandir (sun temple) of Prabhas Pata (LONELY PLANTET, India 2005: 668, 669-670) or Prabhas Patan (R. Baskara Narayan; WARD 1988) at the Somnath (N20°53': E70°22') which lies 6 km along the road east of Veraval / Verawal (N20°54': E70°22'), about 80 km from Junagadh (Junagarh N21°31': E70°28').
