SIDDHARABETTA (Caves on the)

An unidentified number of relatively many caves (note 1) are said to be found on a hill called Siddharabetta (note 2), which is reputed to lie somewhat close to (east or north-east of) Tumkur (note 3) and about 70 km or 100 km along the road north-west from Bangalore (N12°59': E77°35'). Upon approaching from Bangalore one has to make a right-hand turn for the road to Madhugiri / Maddagiri (note 4) at a place (note 5) about 15 km short of Tumkur. SITUATION: Siddharabetta lies north-west or west of Bangalore and on clear atmospheric conditions, you can see this hill from Bangalore. Direct air distance between Bangalore and this hill must be with in 45 to 50 km. Since there is are few temples in this hills, there is a reasonably maintained Government Hotel established -- as per my colleague (A.D. Edward Raj, Bangalore 2002.06.05 personal correspondence).
