Location
Mutanda zone, Buzi district, Sofala province, GPS (WGS84) S 19°51 (20.9" / E 34°08'17.3", ca. 75 m asl. Surveyed on 24 Aug. 1999 by Artur Fernandes, Michael Laumanns and Jens Römer (BCRA-Grade 4b). Length; 28.00 m. Vertical range: -8,00 m. The vertical entrance shafts of Pwanda No. 4 are located a further km N of the caves Pwanda No. 1 - 3.
Description
The biggest pit with a diameter of 2 m can be descended by means of a steel rope ladder along tree roots. It opens into a flat round room with some small but nice stalactites. To the N another round room with a daylight opening in the roof is reached. This room has a small adjacent alcove with a third daylight opening. Only a few bats were seen in the cave. No conglomerate infillings are present. An air temperature of 20,4°C was measured.
