Description

Sort of a modified natural or man-made cave called Pancha Pandava's Cave (note 1) at Kadri is most likely developed in (excavated from) laterite, associated with a spring of water and considered as a reputedly troglodyte Hindu temple cave sacred to the panch (five) Pandava brothers of Mahabharata's fame. It is possibly identical with the troglodyte Muslim temple cave of –>Sheikh Farid (Mangalore: Kadri). SITUATION: In an unspecified spatial relation next to the Manjunatha Temple (a mutt of the natha cult, with a shiva lingam) at Kadri (Cuddry, Kadali, Kadre), a suburb north-east of Mangalore city (note 2). CULTURAL HISTORY - human use: The … other old temple of aging 1068 A.D. is Kadri Manjunatha Temple. It is said that the incarnation of Shri Vishnu, Shri Parashuram had installed the Shivalinga and named it as Manjunatha at Kadali Kshetra (Kadri). The speciality of the temple is that spring water flows out as a stream through an outlet known as Gomukha below the seat of idol of Lrd Ganesh. This water is conveyed to the 9 tanks [water reservoirs] by the side of the temple. The tanks are situated at a higher level and Manjunatha Temple at a lower level approximately 100 feet. There is a mutt belonging to Nath Cult. Next to the Mutt is a cave called Pancha Pandava's Cave (ourkarnataka.com/states/mangalore.htm accessed 2008.02.17).Sort of a modified natural or man-made cave called Pancha Pandava's Cave (note 1) at Kadri is most likely developed in (excavated from) laterite, associated with a spring of water and considered as a reputedly troglodyte Hindu temple cave sacred to the panch (five) Pandava brothers of Mahabharata's fame.
