Some 50 odd bridges and tunnels on the Southern Railway (India Road Atlas, Eicher Goodearth 2006: 110 C4) or Hassan [note 1] - Mangalore [note 2] railway line (LAKSHMI, R 2002) were encountered when railway trekking from Doniga / Donigal (note 2) via Yedakumeri (note 3) and Shiribagilu (note 4) to Kukke Subramanya (note 5), where watching trains thundering past you especially in a railway tunnel is truly an -off the beaten track- experience (LAKSHMI, R 2002).
