Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

HOOPER, D (1903), an engineering geologist in the track of mineral wealth, reported sort of a mine (perhaps representing a modified natural cave) exploited for khagal (note 1) and used as a guided show cave containing innumerable fantastically shaped stalactites (speleothems) suspended above a 150 m long pool of warm mineral water. The curious item is said to be excavated (by nature or by man?) from an occurrence of easily dissoluting Melanterite (iron sulphate) —a peculiar sulphate karst?— in the arid Central Brahui Range: The mine at Chotok [note 2] is in a gorge, at a distance of six miles [say 10 km] west of Janh [note 3]. Here a cave is formed in the hill with a pool of warm water, noted for its mineral properties [keywords: therapy, speleotherapy], and overhead is a rock from which water drops from innumerable stalactites of fantastic shape. The length of the pool is 150 yards, through which guides conduct visitors after they have undressed.HOOPER, D (1903), an engineering geologist in the track of mineral wealth, reported sort of a mine (perhaps representing a modified natural cave) exploited for khagal (note 1) and used as a guided show cave containing innumerable fantastically shaped stalactites (speleothems) suspended above a 150 m long pool of warm mineral water.
