Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 14/05/2016

A relatively »small« (sic!) and absolutely unknown sized stream of water fell on 5th March 1998 an estimated 20 m down into a cave entrance with unidentified shape, dimensions, orientation and characteristics (Brooks, J A 1998.03.05 personal communication). ETYMOLOGY: The origin and meaning of the Synteng Khasi (Pnar) cave name "Krem Romai Synhin" was not discovered (Kharpran Daly, B D 1998.03.05 after Lucky Dkhar and Robby Lal from Chiehruphi) but the Khasi "[ka] ram ai sin hin" seems to translate as something along the lines of a »finely nicknamed [piece of the] wilderness which has been cleared for jhum cultivation« (note 1). SITUATION: At a walking distance of about two minutes west from an unspecified point with an unidentified GPS position (Kharpran Daly, B D & Brooks, J A 1998.03.05), which lies at about halfway between the villages of Thangskai (25°11'45”N: 92°22'35“E) and Chiehruphi (25°12'36”N: 92°22'22”E) on the National Highway NH44. CAVE DESCRIPTION: The estimated 20 m drop down (Brooks, J A 1998.03.05 personal communication) »seems a lot! Could it be 2 m?« (Jarratt, Anthony 'Tony' R 2002.02.05 Mss: Amendments).
