An unidentified »gusty black hole« (PRAKASH, A 1998: 30) at the monastery (note 1) of Wangdi Phodrang (note 2) emits a strong air current and is suspected to represent the inaccessible entrance to a vertical cave (pothole).The draughting hole »… provided sport to the monks who used to hurl their robes and wooden bowls into the hole. The force of the wind always spewed the articles back to surface. The truth of the story about this gusty black hole is vouched for by old locals who swear to have seen the phenomenon themselves« (PRAKASH, A 1998: 30).
NOTE 1: The monastery was built in circa 1638 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel (PRAKASH , A 1998).NOTE 2: Wangdiphodrang Dzong (PRAKASH, A 1998: 30) or Wangdi Phodrang Dzong (India Road Atlas, Eicher Goodearth 2006: 27 G3), in Tibetan: dBang 'dus Pho brang rDong, is indicated as »Wangdü Phodrang« on AMS sheet NG45-04 Phari Dzong (U502 series, 1963 edition) where the »Dang Chu« (PRAKASH, A 1998), »Dang Chhu« (India Road Atlas, Eicher Goodearth 2006) or »Tang Chu« (AMS sheet NG45-04 Phari Dzong 1963) joins the eastern (orographically left) bank of the »Puna River« (PRAKASH, A 1998), »Puna Tsang Chhu« (India Road Atlas, Eicher Goodearth 2006) or »Mo Chu« (AMS sheet NG45-04 Phari Dzong 1963).
