Description
An estimated 20 m wide and 2 m high cave entrance, which faces an unspecified direction, leads to a seasonal stream cave passage which contains mud, water, speleothems, and a mud funnel (Rob Harper 2008.02.08 Mss: Cave No. 9). ETYMOLOGY: No locally known cave name has been identified for this item (note 1). SITUATION: According to Rob Harper (2008.02.08 Mss: Cave No. 9), a local guide [is] essential to explain the whereabouts of Cave No. 9 as it lies in an inexplicable location (note 2) without specified spatial relation to a certain path (note 3) somewhere near Asakgre. The GPS position (note 4), which has been recorded somewhere on this unspecified path, indicates a spot that lies in the Chibanda area (note 5), roughly 500 m (±200 m) approximately south-east from the cave entrance to –>Bokbema Cave, and again some 500 m (±200 m) approximately north-east from the cave entrance to –>Chibanda Kol. CAVE DESCRIPTION (Harper, Rob 2008.02.08 Mss: Cave No. 9): An entrance approximately 20 mwide and 2 m high in a collapse leads to a boulder and stal [secondary calcite formations] slope down to a choke with a stream along the back wall flowing from right to left [without orientation]. Just inside the entrance, a high-level passage, about 2.5 by 1.5 m [either wide and high or the other way round], on the left [without orientation] leads after 3 m to a climb down through boulders and stal to regain the stream in a reasonable [note 6] large 2.5 by 3 m large [either wide and high or the other way round] passage. Downstream leads after 15 m to a very muddy chamber. Clambering over a mud-bank, a very small passage can be seen to continue at the bottom of a “suicidal” mud funnel. SPELEOMETRY: Harper (2008.02.07 Mss: Cave No. 9) conjectured that the overall length of Cave No. 9 is estimated 30 m, reaching a depth of estimated 20 m.An estimated 20 m wide and 2 m high cave entrance, which faces an unspecified direction, leads to a seasonal stream cave passage which contains mud, water, speleothems, and a mud funnel (Rob Harper 2008.02.08 Mss: Cave No. 9).
