Description

There are two separate sections of the cave leading off from the spacious entrance chamber. A streamway, dry in April 1996, leads to the main part of the cave. The other section is a phreatic maze. The dry streamway leads to a series of rockfall chambers up to 12m wide and 8m high. The chambers have a floor of sediment at the lower points and breakdown. Holes in the floor near the end of the final main chamber lead to a steep rift passage and bad air. About 20m in the passage ends in a choke of mud and rock. On the left hand (southern) side of the main chamber a climb down the boulder pile regains the main streamway. This can be followed upstream for about 20m before becoming too tight. In the other direction the passage can be followed for about 50m past a tight stalagmite squeeze to a flowstone choke. The entrance to the phreatic maze is on the northwestern side of the entrance chamber. About 30m of passage was surveyed, but many low crawlways remain to be explored. One passage contains some gypsum flowers, but the area is largely devoid of speleothems. Mineralised veins have been exposed in two passages in the maze and appear to have been extended by mining. Excavated veins also occur nearby in an alcove about 6m above floor level in the entrance chamber.
