ETYMOLOGY: The origin and meaning of the recorded cave name Krem Um Suwe (Kharpran Daly 2004.07.18 Mss) is hidden in the realm of thick fog, which is also known as the abode of the clouds, but the Khasi noun -u suwai- signifies particles of sand or dust (SINGH, N 1906: 214) whilst -siew (Khasi; verb) to pay (SINGH, N 1906: 203) and -eh- (adverb) very; exceedingly (SINGH, N 1906: 75) and dearly (SINGH, N 1920: 108).
