Description
A cave entrance in a 0.5 m wide rift gives access to a pothole which descends an estimated 30 m into clean pitch with calcite (Janossy 2007.02.25 Mss: Krem Mih Dohtli 1). ETYMOLOGY: The Krem Mih Dohtli (Cave of the Rising / Issuing Catfish) of Janossy (2007.02.25 Mss) and JARRATT & DAWSON (2007) is suspected to stand for a Krem Wah Dohthli or Cave on the Stream of the Catfish (note 1). The Khasi verb -mih- means to rise, to issue (SINGH, N 1906: 132), the verb -doh- means to kiss and the noun -ka doh- is the meat (SINGH, N 1906: 70) while the Khasi (ex Bengali) noun -u dohthli“ is a small fish (SINGH, N 1906: 71). Brooks (undated 2007 Mss amendment to Janossy 2007.02.25 Mss: Krem Mih Dohtli 1) was led to believe that the whose lot of Rising Dohthli Caves are all called after locality / location but fish are nice to eat but areas not so much. SITUATION 1: McNally (2006.02.26 Mss: Krem Mih Dohthli) gives useless directions (note 2), literally quoted: Approch from road junction at N.5-21-49.4 E 092-32-11.7 [note 3] follow track up hill before fighting thru jungle on right to pot. SITUATION 2: Janossy (2007.02.25 Mss: Krem Mih Dohtli 1) recommends, literally quoted, to leave road [note 4] along 4wd track. After about 50 m after [deleted: roa] track bends to left turn right don path through pip Gorest. Descend rwd slope to nft. SITUATION 3: According to the recorded GPS positions, Krem Mih Dohtli lies approximately south and downhill from the village of Moolesngi (N25°22'02”: E92°32'22” WGS84) and about 320 or 325 m in a direct line approximately WSW of the entrances of Krem –>Labit (Moolesngi). CAVE DESCRIPTION 1 (McNally 2006.02.26 Mss: Krem Dohthli) yells Descend down gully on east side of pot to c10 m shaft at far side. CAVE DESCRIPTION 2: JARRATT & DAWSON (2007) mention a Krem Mih Dohtli 1 that allowed on Sunday 25th February (2007.02.25) to perform exercising a 25 m drop to boulders. CAVE DESCRIPTION 3 (Janossy 2007.02.25 Mss: Krem Mih Dohtli 1): 0.5m wide rift drops vertically, opening out into 5 m wide clean shaft with calcite on walls. Descends to large boulder, then to floor about 25 m. Mud floor with about 6 m long rift passage ending [sic! for: leading to] aven. Up mud and bouders under large, wedged boulder to boulder and mud floor in the same rift. Gods in aven. No ways on. TACKLE: Brooks (undated 2006 Mss amendments to McNally 2006.02.26 Mss: Krem Dohthli) suggests to take more than 15 m rope or ladder with beleays while Brooks (undated 2007 Mss amendment to Janossy 2007.02.25 Mss) recommends 30 m rope + slings + hangers. PROSPECTS: McNally (2006.02.26 Mss: Krem Dohthli) considers the prospects for surveying and exploring this cave are good (literally quoted). Brooks (undated 2006 Mss amendments to Janossy 2007.02.25 Mss: Krem Mih Dohtli 1) also judges good but Brooks (undated 2006 Mss amendments to McNally 2006.02.26 Mss: Krem Dohthli) says minimal.5-21-49.4 E 092-32-11.7 [note 3] follow track up hill before fighting thru jungle on right to pot. History
EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2006.02.26: Ekna Sukhlain guided Brian D. Kharpran Daly, Terence 'Terry' M. Whitaker and Desmond 'Des' McNally to Krem Mih Dohtli (Whitaker 2006.02.26 Mss) and Brooks, Simon J. (2006 undated Mss amendments to Whitaker 2006.02.26 Mss) explains that what they did was to locate, record and evaluate. 2007.02.03: Tony [Boycott, Antony 'Tony'] and Jane [Jayne Stead] recce’d some other shafts in the area, but weren’t sure which had been looked at by Terry [Terence Whitaker] last year (Brooks, S J et al. 2007.03.01 Mss: Diary2007.doc). 2007.02.21: Neil Pacey … borrowed Quentin’s GPS, walked back [from Krem –>Labit (Moolesngi 3] and located a rift passage near Krem Mihdihtli [compare: Krem —>Mih Dohthli, Krem —>Wah Dohthli]. He then walked to Shnongrim and found three shafts that could be Krem Skap 1, 2 and 3 (Brooks, S J et al. 2007.03.01 Mss: Diary2007.doc). 2007.02.25: Katharina 'Kate' Janossy, Neil Pacey and Henry Rockcliff locate descend & conduct gade 1 survey (Brooks undated 2006 Mss amendment to Janossy 2007.02.25 Mss: 'Krem Mih Dohtli 1). According to JARRATT & DAWSON (2007), Neil, Henry R. and Kate bottomed … Krem Mih Dohtli 1 after a 25m-drop to boulders.
