A rift pothole (Jarratt 2005.02.21 Mss -Krem Nan 1 / Pond Cave- dated 21/2/05). ETYMOLOGY: Strange locals (note 1) from rainy abodes on islands in western Europe once believed that -Krem Nan- means Pond Cave though the Khasi -ka nan- is a tank (SINGH, N 1906: 189) or man-made water reservoir while -a pond- translates into ka pung; ka jinglang um; ka thwei; ka kynja jingiakhaáli (SINGH, N 1920: 388) or into ka pung (BLAH, E 2007: 230). SITUATION 1 (Jarratt 2005.02.21 Mss: Krem Nan 1 / Pond Cave): Part way down ridge below Khaidong [sic! for: Daistong] village in a tree filled depression below paddy field. SITUATION 2: According to the GPS position lies Krem Nan 1 at a distance of about 5 km in a direct line approximately ESE (4531.5 m east, 2010.7 m south) of Khaidong village (N25°21'23.3”: E092°30'58.8” unspecified precision error, WGS84, M. Groves 2002.02.24, Garmin 12) below the village of Daistong (without GPS positions). CAVE DESCRIPTION 1 (Jarratt 2005.03.06 Mss: Cave Log, vo. XII, 21/2/05): Circa 20 m free-climb down rift to a circa 5 m drop needing a ladder. EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2001.02.09: Rud Suklain of Daistong village told the cave name Krem Nan to Brian D. Kharpran Daly, in company with Anthony 'Tony' R Jarratt, H. D. Gebauer and others.2005.02.21: Anthony 'Tony' R Jarratt (2005.03.06 Mss: Cave Log, vol. XII, 21/2/05), in company with Graham Marshall and Fraser E. Simpson, guided by Shartis Dkhar and Raplang Shangpliang, were chauffeur-driven by Adi [Addison Thabah] to Khaidong [sic! for: Daistong] with a tea and shortbread stop at the Dukan Sha tea shop. At Khaidong village [perhaps for: Daistong village] we got a local guide, Shartis [Shartis Dkhar], to show us seven new caves [Krem Brisyni 1-3, Krem Nan 1-3, Krem Sukbu] and the previously visited Krem Khangbru.
