Description
An unidentified cave called Krem Shrieh (Kharpran Daly 2004.07.18 Mss) is said to lie somewhere in the vicinity of the village of Brishyrnot. ETYMOLOGY: More often than not, the Khasi and Synteng Khasi (Pnar) cave name ”Krem Shrieh- is simply translated as Monkey Cave (note 1) but it may also signify Cave [of the] Ape (note 2) and even Jackanapes' Cave. SITUATION: On the left-hand side slope of the hill upon reaching the village Brishirnot (Kharpran Daly, B D 2004.07.18 Mss) or, in other words, on the northern side of the road off the National Highway and short of Brishyrnot (note 3). APPROACH: From Lumshnong (25°10'45”N: 92°22'25”E), travel some 7 km generally south along the National Highway NH44 to an inconspicuous road-fork (note 4) and turn off south-east (left), proceed some 3 km or 4 km generally east along a partly motorable dirt road (1997) which passes through the village of Brishyrnot before it descends steeply down into the valley of the Lubha near the village of Khadum (note 5). EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2004.07.18: Brian D. Kharpran Daly had listed some more names of caves I have gathered: Brishirnot village … the caves Krem Shrieh, Krem Sahsniang and Krem Labit (Kharpran Daly, B D 2004.07.18 Mss: Some more names of caves). 2006.03.10: Brian D. Kharpran Daly narrated how he had been told by somebody from Brishyrnot how these people [cavers] walked through our village without caring to look at our caves (Kharpran Daly, B D 2006.03.10 personal communication).
