A flight of steps ascend to a tiny, north-east facing, rectangular entrance hole (about 0.7 m wide and 0.9 m high) of a tiny, modified natural rock chamber (cave temple) in massive Deccan Trap basalt. SITUATION: In a white-washed section of the north-east facing cliff of Brahmagiri, the prominent mountain south-west of Trimbak (note 1), and at about halfway betweem –>Vriddha Ganga Gumpha (Trimbak) in the south-east and –>Goraknath Gumpha (Trimbak) in the north-west. CULTURAL HISTORY - religious folklore: The saint Shri Nivratti Nathji came in to the holy province of Trimbakeshwar along with his father. He resided in the Trimbakeshwar temple. Once, while revolving [sic!] the city he saw a tiger. The people scattered around seeing that tiger. In this stampede Shri Nivratti Nathji happened to be parted from his father. Then Shri Nivratti Nathji approached into the cave of Gahini Nathji. Gahini Nathji delivered him the sermons and discourses (DUTT, Manvesh s.a. circa 2005: 18).A flight of steps ascend to a tiny, north-east facing, rectangular entrance hole (about 0.7 m wide and 0.9 m high) of a tiny, modified natural rock chamber (cave temple) in massive Deccan Trap basalt. History

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2007.02.16: Andre Abele, in company with H. D. Gebauer (in the role of an oustanding cave explorer), ducked in, looked around, listened politely to a verbose flow of Marathi speach by an undisturbed pandit (temple guide) and left to give space for pilgrims queuing outside.
