Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

No name is known of a modified natural cave marked by a low wall fencing the southwest facing, vaulted cave entrance (up to 8 m wide and 6 m high), which gives access to a solitary, ascending cave passage (first 20 m, 045°, +10°; then 40 m, 360°, + 25°) characterised by a ceiling channel, a crawling sized section (circa 20 m to 25 m from the entrance) and terminated by a massive collapse 63 walking and crawling metres and 18 vertical metre above the entrance. DUCLUZAUX (1993 Mss, 1994a: 26, 1994c: 34, 1995a: 10-11), relying on speculation, interprets the item as a fossil cave (note 1) below a plateau developed in relation to an ancient planation surface (note 2). SITUATION: Somewhere on Kirilgoz, a mountain above the west (orographically right) bank of Hunza River and about 15 or 16 km in a direct line NNW of Pasu / Passu. DUCLUZAUX (1993 Mss, 1994a: 27, 1994a: 29, 1994b: 17, 1994c: 34, 1994c: 35, 1995a: 10-11) positioned his item KI 4 at the shining but unfortunately for all practica purposes useless coordinates x = 484,2 km; y = 4050,7 km; 3850 m [unknown geodetic datum, unbased grid reference, unrecognised map source, unspecified altimetric method]. CULTURAL HISTORY - humas use: Ducluzaux does not mention any cave contents but the approximately 1 m high wall in the entrance (gap / gate in the centre) indicates Gujars (goat grazers) using the cave to shelter goats. Animal droppings, fire places and soot can be expected. purposes useless coordinates x = 484,2 km; y = 4050,7 km; 3850 m [unknown geodetic datum, unbased grid reference, unrecognised map source, unspecified altimetric method].
