Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A 2 m wide and 4 m high cave entrance, which faces an unidentified direction under a small sandstone cliff that also faces an unidentified direction, leads to a relatively large rift like cave with steeply descending boulder floor, greatly modified by breakdown where an unspecified length of 20.5 (perhaps feet, possibly metres) at an unspecified verticle range (sic!) of 5 (perhaps feet, possibly metres) has been claimed (Elizabeth -Lizzie- Elvidge 2000.02.18 Mss: Krem Amlariang) but no cave plan was ever produced. ETYMOLOGY: The origin and meaning of the cave name Krem Amlariang (Elvidge 2000.02.18 Mss) has not been discovered but appears to derive from the name of an Amwi Khasi -am- (stream) named after one or the other Khasi -la- (note 1) in a row (note 2). SITUATION: Adjacent south of the road from Nongtalang (note 3) to Jowai (25°27'N: 92°12'E) and about 200 m approximately west of the cave entrance to Amkipai (i.e. Krem –>Amkpai) but vertically 2 m higher up (Elvidge 2000.02.8 Mss: Amlariang; BOYES, P W 2000 s.a.: 4, 7-8). The GPS position recorded for the cave entrance to Krem Amlariang (note 4) is disputable insofar as it indicates a spot that lies only a few metres east of the spot indicated by the GPS position for the entrance to –>AA K3 Cave (Elvidge 2000.02.18) which, however, is expressively said to lie near a settlement with no known name [for whom?] about two kilometres from Nongtalang. PROSPECTS: A tight rifty tube in the floor was draughting (air flow, air current) at an unidentified hour of the day on 18th February 2000 but was not pushed to a conclusion. CAVE CLIMATE: Elizabeth -Lizzie- Elvidge (2000.02.18 Mss: Amlariang) recorded to have noticed an unspecified air current (air flow) and concluded that a tight, rifty tube in floor is draughting. CAVE LIFE: A relatively small colony (day roost) of of unidentified, relatively small sized bats (Chiroptera).A 2 m wide and 4 m high cave entrance, which faces an unidentified direction under a small sandstone cliff that also faces an unidentified direction, leads to a relatively large rift like cave with steeply descending boulder floor, greatly modified by breakdown where an unspecified length of 20.5 (perhaps feet, possibly metres) at an unspecified verticle range (sic!) of 5 (perhaps feet, possibly metres) has been claimed (Elizabeth -Lizzie- Elvidge 2000.02.18 Mss: Krem Amlariang) but no cave plan was ever produced.
