Description
Few has become known of a rift cave with a 30 m shaft to an unexplored and ongoing "Bad Air Passage" (the cave plan, perhaps by D. Hodgson, in CHABERT & CONWAY (1972) shows a closed bottom). SITUATION: About 10 km north of Arki (31°09'N: 76°58'E: 1045 m) and somewhere above Mangu (note 1), a hamlet between the villages of Ghiana (note 2) or »Gayana« (Conway, J in: CHABERT & CONWAY 1972) and Karara (note 3). CAVE DESCRIPTION 1: »In the closing … two more caves [with uncomprehended cave names] were discovered [bullshit! were shown] in a completely new area. Although of no great lateral extent their depths make them worthy of notice, one containing a shaft of 100 feet [30.5 m] with bad air at the bottom preventing exploration of the low passage going off« (HODGSON, D 1971d: 2). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2: »A 100 feet shaft above the village of Mangu« (HALL, C 1971: 7). CAVE POTENTIAL: Since the cave was visited by adventure tourists of the »British Speleological Expedition to the Himalayas 1970« one can safely assume that these BSE explorers, eqipped with inadequate lights of their time and determined to break depth records, did not even attempt to consider looking out for possible high level continuations.

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1970 (October): Members of the "British Speleological Expedition to the Himalayas 1970", guided by the forest warden Het-Ram or Set Ram, a police officer reduced to "Sid" (C.I.D.) and a certain "Energy" (Banerjee?), visited, laddered and descended, explored, mapped and exited.
