Description
Another true tunnel cave containing about 40 m or 50 m of roofed cañon passage (aligned WSW-ENE), which is flanked by two ceiling windows (pothole entrances) and some 30 m or 40 m of lateral cave passages (shown on LYDEKKER 1886b, page 24: Sketch plan of Billa Surgam Caves). ETYMOLOGY: One of the two officers called Bruce Foote [either Robert B. Foote or his son Henry B. Foote] named these caves from east to west [sic!] as Charnel House, Purgatory Cave, Cathedral Cave and Chapter House (PRASAD & YADAGIRI 1986 for 1980-1981: 72). SITUATION: About 100 m along the daylight-lit stream bed upstream (west) of the roofed cañon section forming –>Billa Surgam 3: Cathedral Cave.
