What may be interpreted as a sinking river or subaquaeous sinkhole and possible diving spot reported NEWALL (1866: 222) from a Snân (sacred site) called Succur-gaom on the pilgrimage route to Amarnath Cave. SITUATION: At an unspecified distance upstream of Murtund (note 1) but downstream of Ganésbúl (Ganeshbal) in the valley of the river Liddur (Laddar, Lambodari, Lidar, Lidder, Liddur, Lithur) or Sumbooderi and on the road from Srinugger (Srinagar) to Pahalgam (NEWALL 1866: 222). CULTURAL HISTORY: The trunk of the elephant (Ganesh) is here supposed to be visible beneath the waters [note 2] of the Liddur or Sumbooderi (swallower of waters).
