Description
One of the two »Pedda Ahobilam potholes« (DUTT 1955: 121) or »pools near Pedda Ahobilam« (DUTT 1981: 15) is one of whirlpools (note 1) which »have been created by the youthful streams either below where they fall or where tributary nalas [water courses] join them« (DUTT 1955: 121). SITUATION: DUTT (1955: 121, 1981: 15) locates the »Birava Gundam and the Varaha Gundam two furlongs [402.3 m] east and half a furlong [100.6 m] west respectively of Ahobilam« (note 2).
NOTE 1: DUTT (1955, 1981) mentions »potholes« (whirlpools) called –>Bhirava Gundam, –>Chenchula Gundalu, –>Dhodiyam, –>Kannikala Gundalu, –>Pachagundalu, –>Pedda Ahobilam Potholes, and –>Varaha Gundam. NOTE 2: »Ahobilam« (DUTT 1955: 121) and »Pedda Ahobilam« (DUTT 1981: 15) is indicated as »Pedda Ahobilam« indicated near (±150 m) N15°07'26”: E078°44'11”: circa (±20 m) 490 m asl (Everest 1830) on the Survey of India sheet 57-I/12 (edition 1981).
