The river Vyas (Beas) flows out of a 30 mts. [30 m] deep pit surrounded by rocks on which reside innumerable pigeons (INDIA TOURISM s.a. circa 2006). ETYMOLOGY: Kothi. A large house (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909, 25: xvi). SITUATION: At a walking distance of one kilometer from the village of Kothi (N32°19': E077°12' nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003) which INDIA TOURISM (s.a. circa 2006) places at a distance of 12 km (there and back again?) from Manali. AMS sheet NI43-16 Palampur (U502 series, 1963 edition) shows one Kothi Resthouse above the left (eastern) bank of the Beas River and approximately 6 km in a direct line north of Manali (N32°16': E077°10').
