Description
An undescended shaft breaching the local sandstone caprock, elliptical in ground plan, and presumably 30 m or 40 m deep. ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known cave name has been identified for what had been christened First Cave at Shella or, in Khasi, Krem poh Shella u Weisien (note 1) but ended up deranged as a Krem Um Uwe Skin (sic!). SITUATION: The location of this cave entrance is problematic insofar as it was understood to lie in one way or another near (note 2) Krem Shella Jalsir (3rd AA Cave Shella) but the recorded GPS position indicates a point at a very unlikely spot (note 3) in the pebble-covered riverbed of the Umiew (Umiang, Shella River) below Disong. An undescended shaft breaching the local sandstone caprock, elliptical in ground plan, and presumably 30 m or 40 m deep.
