Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A relatively small sized cave with unidentified dimensions, which appears to contain script karren (note 1) and is characterised by narrow recesses, reports STEIN, M. A. (1899a: 18 edited 1977) from the hillside west of Karapa village (note 2): Starting … [from Barkili, note 3, about 5 km from Takhtaband, note 4] I marched first round the foot of several spurs which descend from the high range to the south and run out into the Panjpao plain between Barkili and Karapa … At Karapa, which is a thriving village of some size, I picked up Aslam Khan, one of the inhabitants, who had assisted my guide Kator Shah on previous occasions in tracing inscribed stones in this neighbourhood. He first offered to show me -Buts,- [idols, statues]on the hillside west of the village. But after reaching the small cave to which I was taken, and examining with some difficulty its narrow recesses, I convinced myself that the supposed relievo images were only natural markings of the rocks.A relatively small sized cave with unidentified dimensions, which appears to contain script karren (note 1) and is characterised by narrow recesses, reports STEIN, M.
