SHIVAGANGA HILL (Caves on the)

Unspecified but incredible underground cave temples are found on the steep sided Shivaganga / Sivaganga Hill (note 1) culminating at 1376 m asl (LONELY PLANET, South India 2001: 332) or 1386 m asl (India Road Atlas, Eicher Goodearth 2006: 111 H3).SITUATION: Above the village of Shivaganga, which lies at a distance of 56 km along the road north-west of Bangalore, 16 km south-east of Tumkur and 8 km south-west from Dobbasapete (Dobbaspet, Dobbspet N13°13'47”: E77°14'21” WGS84 nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003). APPROACH: To reach the hill take one of the direct buses that travel about every two hours between Bangalore and Shivaganga. Alternatively, get off the Bangalore - Tumkur bus at the town of Dobbaspet, 8 km away from Shivaganga, and charter an autorikshaw or a taxi.
