Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

The sinking of a well at the village of Tellipalai or Tellipallai, Tellippalai, Tillipalli and Tillipally (note 1) resulted at a depth of 4.3 m in an artificial (man-made) entrance to cave of unknown extension, drowned in more than 10 m of water (TENNENT 1859, 1860 vol. 1: 21), which is … entirely unaflected as to its level by any rains, and exhibits no alteration of its depths on either monsoon (TENNENT 1859, 1860 vol. 1: 23) while the water level in –>Tidal Well (Puttur) abd –>Tidal Well (Navakkeeri) rises and falls in accordance with the tide. CAVE DESCRIPTION 1859: Workers sinking a wall shaft came at a depth of fourteen feet [4.3 m] … to the ubiquitous coral, the crust of which gave way, and showed a cavern below containing the water they were in search of, with a depth of more than thirty-three feet [10 m]. It is remarkable that the well at Tillipalli preserves its depth at all seasons alike, uninfluenced by rains or drought. … the well at Tillipalli is entirely unaffected as toits level by any rains, and exhibits no alteration of its depths on either monsoon (TENNENT 1859, 1860 vol. 1: 21, 23). CAVE POTENTIAL - prospects: Perhaps a diving spot worth checking out.its level by any rains, and exhibits no alteration of its depths on either monsoon (TENNENT 1859, 1860 vol. 1: 21, 23). CAVE POTENTIAL - prospects: Perhaps a diving spot worth checking out.
