Description
A series of dark cellars in the fort of Belgaum (BROSSET 1962c: 590) are probably man-made rock chambers (undergrounds) excavated from laterite. CAVE LIFE: BROSSET (1962c: 590) had collected in one October (1960?) two out of 25 or 30 Megaderma lyra Geoffroy 1810 bats (Chiroptera) from Belgaum … Series of dark cellars … and describes this bat as … of large size with long ears, a mobile head, living usually in small colonies. Individuals are seen hanging from ceilings. They are shy. If caught, this bat defends itself with extreme vigoot and bites severely.
