Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

The cave is formed at a junction of the very hard limestone [note 1] and a softer conglomerate [note 2]. The cave entrance itself is some 5 m in diameter and it extends upwards into the hill for approximately 27 metres to where it pinches out. There are no side passages (BROOKS, S J 1993c: 2, 1994c: 13). The cave, possibly only a few tens of years old, is situated directly behind the village of Passu [note 3], on the steep slopes [note 4] lying above the high cliffs that tower over the village in the west and at an unspecified relative or absolute elevation. Bruno Ducluzaux had not come anywhere close to the site but anyhow decided that it is perhaps a rock shelter: Au dessus de Pasu, il y a une grotte : Sojhu Boe, peut-être un abri sous roche (DUCLUZAUX, B 1993 Mss, 1994c: 38). CAVE LIFE: The cave is used as a roosting place for pigeons [BROOKS 1994c: pigeons], hence its name, which translated is Pidgeon Cave [BROOKS 1994c: Pigeon Cave] (BROOKS 1993c: 2).The cave is formed at a junction of the very hard limestone [note 1] and a softer conglomerate [note 2].
