Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A stream originating from a cave (DIEMBERGER 1990 edited 1991: 66-67) lies opposite across the Barun River from –>Tshechi Dukhang and –>Shelgyi Dukhang. CULTURAL HISTORY: This is holy water from Kharta [note 1]. Here Guru Rinpoche [Padmasambhava] pierced the Himalaya and made the water of the holy lake of Kharta flow to the south. The holy water of Beyul Khenbalung also flows in the holy cave which lies more to the south in the Abshuwa Valley, described by J. Reinhard (1976) (DIEMBERGER (1990 edited 1991: 67). It may not have been the Abshuwa Valley (note 2), which REINHARD (1976) described but the holy cave –>Chhango Gufa. Contrary to DIEMBERGER (1990 edited 1991: 67), however, the Chhango Gufa does not lie in the Apsuwa Khola (Chhoyang) itself but about 10 km upstream of where the Apsuwa joins Barun River. What the cave (Chhango Gufa) of REINHARD (1976) and the valley (Apsuwa Khola) have in common is the rumour of a fabulous underground tunnel, which does not exist but is said to conect Chhango Gufa to a second cave entrance in this valley.A stream originating from a cave (DIEMBERGER 1990 edited 1991: 66-67) lies opposite across the Barun River from –>Tshechi Dukhang and –>Shelgyi Dukhang.
