Description
A cave entrance shaped like a rectangle, about 0.6 m wide and 2.5 m high (unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) give access to a comparatively small cavity (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 26th February, Wednesday) which was interpreted to represent a heavily eroded, partly open surface karst feature (Arbenz, T 2014.04.29 undated Mss: Cave record overwiev 2_ 2014.xlsx). ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for what has been dubbed Krem 39 km 5 Anonymous (2014.04.05 Expedition Survey Log 2014 (8-3-2014).xls.) King Pixie Cave Arbenz, T (2014.04.29 undated Mss: Cave record overwiev 2_ 2014.xlsx); Arbenz, T (2014.12.25 Meghalaya cave record: Marcel Dikstra 2014.02.26 King Pixie Cave.doc) Naughty Pixie Cave Anonymous (2014.04.05 Expedition Survey Log 2014 (8-3-2014).xls). SITUATION 2014.04.05: The cave entrance(s) to the fifth km 39 Cave was understood to lie in an unidentified spaial relation to the cave entrances near kilometre 39 (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss) or 39.5 (Anonymous 2014.04.05 Expedition Survey Log 2014 (8-3-2014).xls) on what had been in February 2014 the road from Lama to Lakadong and in a setting of heavily eroded pinnacle karst where some pinnacles have sandstone boulders perched on top (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 23rd February, Sunday). SITUATION 2014.12.25: In the pinnacle karst short of km 39 on the Lama - Umlyngsha road (note 1): The limestone borders sandstone on which broom [note 2] plants grow (Arbenz, T 2014.12.25 Meghalaya cave record: Marcel Dikstra 2014.02.26 King Pixie Cave.doc). ALTITUDE 2014.04.29: 669 m asl (Arbenz, T 2014.04.29 undated Cave record overwiev 2_ 2014.xlsx). ALTITUDE 2014.12.25: 469 m calc 420 m (Arbenz, T 2014.12.25 Meghalaya cave record: Marcel Dikstra 2014.02.26 King Pixie Cave.doc). ALTITUDE 2015.01.02: 469 m is correct and 669 m is erroneous Arbenz, T 2015.01.02 Mss: ML 2014 King Pixie Höhenangabe). APPROACH: A cave entrance, which eventually was visible to the left of an expedition caver without orientation (note 3), had been reached in February 2014 by climbing 20 m up a slope in pinnacle karst short of the flagstone indicating km 39 on the Lama - Unlyngsha road (note 4). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2014.04.05: A somehow small cavity which he estimated 15-20 m, but then turned out to be 83.83 m long (anonymous Brooks, S. J. or Dikstra, M. in: anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 23rd February, Sunday). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2014.04.29: Maze, heavily eroded, partly open surface karst feature (Arbenz, T 2014.04.29 undated Mss: Cave record overwiev 2_ 2014.xlsx). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2014.12.25: Open karst feature. The cave is basically a surface karst feature. The limestone is heavily eroded with passages going criss-cross through it. Average width is ± 0.6 m, mostly walkable, but frequently one has o crawl a little to proceed (Arbenz, T 2014.12.25 Meghalaya cave record: Marcel Dikstra 2014.02.26 King Pixie Cave.doc).
