Description
The entrance is a big roof collapse (10 x 4 m wide) with a massive tree root. The descent is sloping down to a depth of 4 m followed by a 5 m deep free hanging section (steel rope ladder). The entrance shaft opens into a wide phreatic gallery with a tunnel shaped cross-section of 7 m width and 5 m height. After about 20 m the passage turns to the right and has another small daylight hole in the roof. 15 m further on the big tunnel ends abruptly in a tight crawl which is blocked by boulders. Pwanda No. 1 contains nearly no calcite formations and just a few bats. No relevant guano deposits. No evidence of conglomerate infillings. An air temperature of 19,0°C was measured.
