Description
A pre-Chalcolithic site of unspecified character (cave, rock shelter or open air site?) reported SANKALIA, H.D. (1974: 224, 259) from somewhere at »Obaidullahganj« (note 1) about 20 miles (32 km) south of Bhopal (23°16'N: 77°24'E). CULTURAL HISTORY: Excavated since 1971. In 1972, V.S. Wakankar found painted Malwa ware above a layer containg microliths. This is the first time that microliths could be placed in a relative context.
NOTE 1: Obaidullahganj (SANKALIA 1974: 224, 259) in the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 71 E1) is positioned as Ubaidullaganj and Ubaidullahganj at N22°59': E077°36' (nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003).
